The client
EvaQ Lighting is a startup that developed smart (evacuation and) emergency lighting. It’s innovative LED technology makes escape routes more visible and understandable, halving the evacuation time.
The challenge
Since the 1930’s not much has changed when it comes to building safety. Good visible escape routes are paramount.
With buildings becoming increasingly complex, and public pressure and regulation costs increasing, building owners need innovative solutions to keep buildings safe. And even though people value safety, they value low costs more.
EvaQ Lighting wanted to connect its fixtures into a smart platform that will significantly reduce the total cost of ownership for emergency & evacuation lighting.
The solution
Taking a service-design approach, INFO charted EvaQ’s ecosystem and processes in order to create a feasible service blueprint for the EvaQ Platform.
Next we designed and implemented a platform architecture, consisting of:
- A robust wireless (IoT) mesh-network that connects the fixtures to the back-end using OpenThread
- A Digital Twin back-end that captures sensor data during the entire lifespan of all emergency and evacuation lighting products
- Dedicated apps for construction engineers, service companies and building management
